Tulsa, OK, May 1, 2008 — Whether you rock around the clock or just love to rock ‘n’ roll all night, the American Red Cross wants you to “Rock and Roll up Your Sleeves” this summer and save someone’s life. And, in partnership with the Oklahoma History Center and Oklahoma Film and Music during May all those coming to donate at a Red Cross center or blood drive can register their nomination for Oklahoma’s official rock song, receive a special rocker-style T-shirt and enter to win an authentic Lynyrd Skynyrd platinum album.

“We are looking forward to partnering with the Red Cross on this campaign,” said Jeff Moore, Director of Exhibits, Oklahoma Museum of History. “We think this is just a great way to launch Oklahoma’s search for our official rock song and help our communities as well.”

The need for blood is especially high in the summer due to an increase in travel because of family vacations and school breaks. In recent years, summer months have been particularly difficult on the community’s blood supply and the Red Cross urges not only rockers but everyone to call 1-800-GIVE-LIFE or visit givelife.org to make an appointment to help save a life.

“It doesn’t matter if you love Elvis, download hip-hop to an iPod or sing in the shower, music gives life and so does donating blood,” said Delisa English, CEO, American Red Cross, Oklahoma. “It’s not the Red Cross that needs your donation; it’s a friend, relative, neighbor or co-worker who is counting on blood being on the hospital shelves.”

In less time than it takes to listen to Lynyrd Skynyrd’s Second Helping platinum album that the Red Cross is raffling away to presenting donors, you can help save the lives of up to three people. Fewer than eight percent of the healthy, able population, who can donate, actually do and there is a constant need for blood. English continues, “Only at the Red Cross can you help save a life, nominate your favorite Oklahoma rock song and maybe win a Lynyrd Skynyrd platinum album. So, come, give blood and support our community. Afterwards you will feel like a rock star.”

You need to be in good health, weigh a minimum of 110 pounds and be at least 17 years old. The Red Cross reminds those coming to donate to bring a picture ID. Giving the “gift of life” can truly make music for someone else.
